Travel to Constanta

Constanta can be reached:

- by plane directly to Constanta (strongly recommended). The airport in Constanta is 24 km far from downtown. The organizers will assist all participants arriving on July 1st in Constanta with transportation to the hotel.

- by plane to Bucharest (the capital of Romania), then taking the train to Constanta (about 3 hours distance from Bucharest).
If you arrive at the airport (Otopeni) in Bucharest, you can take bus 783 (tickets should be bought at a special desk in the airport). If you have to get to the railway station (Gara de Nord), you should get off the bus at Piata Victoriei and take the subway (Metro) one station to Gara de Nord. Note however that there are two subway lines that cross in Piata Victoriei, so look for signs indicating Gara de Nord.
The organizers will assist all participants arriving on July 1st in Bucharest with transportation to the hotel in Constanta.

If you plan to arrive before July 1st and you need assistance to find an accommodation in Bucharest or Constanta, please contact the organizers.

Constanta

The weather in Constanta in July is dry and warm with daily temperature around 30 C. The beaches, exclusively formed of fine or medium size sand, are most generous in width and are, generally, lacking underwater rocks. The salinity of the sea is convenient to the human body and is not irritant to the eyes. The average temperature of water, during summer, varies from 21C to 23C. The lack of tide as well as the gradual deepening of the sea, remove the hazard risks for children and persons who cannot swim. There are no sharks and no marine currents.
Don't forget your swimming suit (the hotel will probably be within 200 meters from the sea).

Proceedings

The organizers intend to publish the proceedings of the meeting in a volume.

Abstracts

We would like to distribute abstracts of lectures and communications. An abstract of maximum 1 page of the corresponding lecture/communication should be sent in advance to one of the organizers, preferably as a TeX/LaTeX source file by email. The deadline for receiving abstracts is May 31, 2001.
Please do not forget to send your abstract !

Exchange rate

In order to get cash in Romanian banks, one can use either travel checks (American Express, Thomas Cook) or credit cards (Visa, MasterCard). Personal checks are not accepted. The exchange rate is about 1USD=28900 lei; you can find updated exchange rates here. There are many exchange offices in Constanta and Mamaia. USD and DM are changed almost everywhere at approximately the standard rate; for other currencies the rate might be more unfavorable (this refers to main European currencies; in other cases you might have real difficulties). Do not try to change in the street; the probability of being cheated is in a neighborhood of 1!

Visas

The requirements for a Romanian visa depend on different bilateral agreements, so the safest thing is to contact the Romanian Embassy in your country. Note, however, that citizens from US and EC countries can obtain the visa at the border (a fee can be charged). If you wish to receive an official invitation of the Organizing Committee, please let us know it as soon as possible. We will be glad to answer any your questions.
