First Announcement

Within the tradition of the collaboration between the Romanian and Finnish mathematicians initiated by Rolf Nevanlinna (1895-1980) and Simion Stoilow
(1887-1961), a conference on Complex Analysis and Related Topics, the X $^{\mbox{\small th}}$
Romanian-Finnish Seminar, will take place in Cluj-Napoca (Romania),
August 14-19, 2005.

The organizers are the Institute of Mathematics ``Simion Stoilow'' of the
Romanian Academy, the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of the University of Bucharest, the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of the "Babes-Bolyai" University of Cluj-Napoca, in cooperation with the Universities of Helsinki, Joensuu and Jyväskylä from Finland.
The following sections will be included:

1. Analytic functions of one complex variable;

2. Quasiconformal mappings and Teichmüller spaces;

3. Several complex variables;

4. Potential theory;

5. Functional analytical methods in complex analysis.

There will be plenary lectures, lectures in sections and short communications.

Cluj-Napoca (Klausenburg-Koloszvár) is located 440 km north of Bucharest in Transylvania near the Western Carpathians Mountains and it is one of the largest Romanian cities, and also one of the oldest, mentioned since the times of the
Roman Empire, the ancient Napoca. Through the middle ages and modern times, it developed as one of the universitary, scientific, educational and artistic center of the modern Romania.

The Preliminary Registration Form should be returned (either by e-mail or by standard mail; see address below) by January 31 $^{\mbox{\small st}}$, 2005.

The participation fee is 35 Euro (covering the conference materials, refreshment, opening reception), to be payed at the registration desk.

The hotel of the "Babes-Bolyai" University of Cluj-Napoca offers lodging at 20 Euro/night for a single room. Other accomodation possibilities (** hotels in the center of the city at about 25 - 30 Euro/night for a single room) are also available and will be presented in the next announcement together with travel informations. Notice that Cluj-Napoca has an international airport.
